  • Hatters from Das Ständebuch (The Book of Trades)

A 16th century engraving of two men and a boy working in a hatter's workshop.
Hatters from Das Ständebuch (The Book of Trades), Jost Amman, 1568

Due to the environment and the black and white nature of the woodcut, it’s possible this depicts a fur hat rather than a thrum cap.

An engraving which has been colored with watercolors, showing a group of fishermen hauling a net on the ice.
“Winter landscape with many ice skaters, in the foreground Fischer pull a net out of the ice”, Claes Jansz, Visscher I, 1550-1612

This late 16th or early 17th century drawing shows what could be a variety of thrum caps in different shapes and colors. This is relatively unusual, as most paintings display only a single type.

Note that the gentleman on the right side seems to be wearing a skullcap-style thrum cap that has come slightly askew, which is very common in depictions of that type.

Found in the Städel Museum collection.

  • A Ferry Departs as St Peter Finds a Coin in the Mouth of a Fish

A painting, depicting "A Ferry Departs as St Peter Finds a Coin in the Mouth of a Fish"
“A Ferry Departs as St Peter Finds a Coin in the Mouth of a Fish”, Jacques Jordaens, 1621-1650

This 17th century Flemish painting shows an older man wearing what seems to be a blue thrum cap on the right. It seems likely to be in the skullcap style, which were often blue, but there could be a pointed crown hidden by the man standing in front.
